Overview

Vera J. Starks is a senior attorney in Swift Currie’s Atlanta office. She focuses her practice on defending insurance companies and their insureds in cases pertaining to arson and fraud, automobile litigation, bad faith litigation, commercial litigation, insurance coverage and premises liability.

As a former Magistrate Judge, Vera has practiced on both sides in front of the bench, as well as behind it. A well-rounded career has allowed Vera to have a unique view of legal issues and creative solutions for challenges. Vera enjoys solving complex problems and bringing resolution to challenging situations. She has counseled clients through difficult situations. In her practice, Vera strives to have a calming effect on clients and a disarming demeanor. She has an ability to understand the needs of her clients and to analyze problems to produce optimal outcomes while still possessing the ability to be agile and pivot when necessary.

Vera thrives in an environment where she can improve processes and organizational practices, mitigate losses for clients, improve litigation strategies and foster growth and opportunities for success for team members. Through her excellent communication skills and ability to listen, she gains a greater understanding of the needs of the organization and its priorities enabling her to provide accurate and relevant information for the client to make informed decisions.

Vera leads by and through service. She encourages all of those around her to achieve their greatest potential. She believes that strong relationships are built on trust and a professional environment that creates a culture for growth. She also believes that strong professional relationships are rooted in communication and mutual respect.

Vera earned her J.D. from Stetson University College of Law. She received her B.A. from the University of Houston.

Interests

Dedicated to her community, Vera has led efforts to participate in Legal Food Frenzy to minimize food insecurity in Fulton County. Vera enjoys spending time with her family, having new adventures and pickleball.
