Swift Currie partners Bobby Potter, Martine Cumbermack and Rusty Watts are speaking at the 2021 State Board of Workers' Compensation (SBWC) Annual Educational Conference, which will be held from Aug. 30-31, 2021.

On Aug. 30 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Potter will join fellow panelists for "The Great Trade-off: A Roaring Review of Georgia Workers’ Compensation These Past 101 Years." This panel will examine the rapid rise of industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which resulted in a growing number of work-related injuries. They will also discuss some entertaining cases and insurance developments in the last 101 years, including the recent uptick in occupational disease claims.

On. Aug, 31 from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Cumbermack and Watts will present "Diversity's Impact on Claims Handling, Claim Results and the Bottom Line." The duo will discuss how diversity and unconscious bias can play a role before an injury and during claim management, as well as how it can drive claims costs, trial outcomes and resolution. They will address strategies for effective engagement and communication with the diverse injured worker, employer and claims handler to mitigate these challenges.

Potter will take the stage once again from 2-3 p.m. for the ethics session, "Legends From Legends: Celebrating the Century." This panel features longtime legends in the workers’ compensation system who will share their insight and experiences illustrating highs and lows of ethics and professionalism and how they have changed over the years.

The conference will also feature other topics, such as teleworking and telemedicine during the pandemic, the impact of communication on outcomes for the injured worker, the ever popular Live Oral Arguments and more.
