Workers' Compensation
Overview
Swift Currie has been the industry leader in representing employers of all sizes, insurance carriers and third-party adjusting companies in workers’ compensation defense for over 50 years. In fact, we wrote the book on it.
Our attorneys work with businesses on safety and prevention of accidents, effective claims handling techniques to limit exposure, and defending cases in the courtroom and through ADR when the need arises. Our longevity and leadership in the field is based on a client-centered approach to practicing law. We pride ourselves on our communication with clients to learn from them and develop strategies to fit their needs. By connecting beyond the case, we tailor a plan to invest in our client’s success. Knowing our clients has helped us provide the best representation before the State Board of Workers’ Compensation and the appellate courts. Our names and the names of our clients are on many of the most prominent higher court decisions.
Our firm’s growth over 50 years is not just based on institutional knowledge amassed through the tens of thousands of cases we handled. We adapt and stay ahead of the dynamic business landscape that includes an ever-increasing work-from-home workforce, technology advancements impacting industries across the spectrum and transportation changes. These challenges require a firm that has been on the cutting edge of the practice of workers’ compensation law for over half a century and we continue to provide the superior level of competence, value and professionalism our clients have come to expect from us.
We have seen just about everything in 50 years which uniquely positions our attorneys to help clients resolve any workers’ compensation issue in Georgia and Alabama through litigation or settlement. Swift Currie has become synonymous with the practice of workers’ compensation law from the initial publication of Georgia Workers’ Compensation Law and Practice, written by partners James B. Hiers, Jr. and Robert R. Potter, through its current Fifth Edition with annual supplements with partner Todd Brooks.
Our team of workers’ compensation lawyers provides counsel from the very beginning of a case through its conclusion. In addition to litigation and mediation, our workers’ compensation lawyers provide free training to assist companies and claims professionals with strategies to reduce risk, ensure effective claims management and prepare for the legal issues that arise with claims. In conjunction with our workers’ compensation practice, our attorneys address subrogation claims for wage and medical benefits paid out for injuries caused by negligent third parties.
Our workers' compensation practice has received a Metropolitan Atlanta Tier 1 ranking in U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” every year since 2016. Numerous practice group members have served as chairpersons for workers' compensation seminars given by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the Workers’ Compensation Defense Institute and many others. In addition to helping organize informative industry events, including the annual Georgia State Board of Worker's Compensation conference and a portion of the annual Florida Workers' Compensation Institute conference, our practice group members also serve on committees appointed by Georgia’s State Board of Workers' Compensation to help formulate and advise on new rules and laws as well as lobby on clients' behalf at the state legislative level.
